Tuesday, 10 April 2012 11:49
The American Red Cross has begun providing help for those affected by the wildfire in the English Mountain Area of Sevier County and the Great Smoky Mountains, in conjunction with local emergency management.  The EMA has set up an evacuation center at at Blowing Cave Baptist Church, 797 Blowing Cave Road, Sevierville, TN 37876. We are currently moving volunteers, cots, and blankets to support that center and our emergency response vehicle has been dispatched to provide food, snacks, and drink to emergency workers and the 175 evacuated persons, including one drug and rehab center (pop 50).

We continue to assess the damage and number of people affected, and will respond as we determine the needs of affected residents.

Red Cross Announces Disaster Boot Camp March 12-16
Wednesday, 29 February 2012 11:42

The Knoxville Area Chapter will be hosting a Disaster "Boot Camp" specifically for disaster volunteers and individuals interested in becoming disaster volunteers March 12 - 18. Eight courses will be offered during this five day period.

When disaster strikes, whether the disaster is a flood or tornado that affected hundreds of people, or a house, mobile home, or apartment fire that affects a single family, trained Red Cross volunteers respond to meet the needs of the individuals involved. The ever-increasing need for volunteers to help respond to local disasters is the impetus for this institute.
